Bloomingdales meets preschool with crayon-filled window displays
Leonor Caraballo and her husband, Abou Farman, create artwork under the singular identity, Caraballo-Farman. Their project ‘Object Breast Cancer’ was realized in 2008 when Leonor Caraballo was diagnosed with breast cancer. Caraballo wanted to confront her cancer in a physical way, so she created 3D renditions of her previously intangible sickness. ‘Object Breast Cancer’ transitions the tumors from medical images to 3D software to objects created by a 3D printer. These printed tumors are then cast into metal sculptures, jewelry, worry beads, and other household objects. Now, Caraballo wears a bronze representation of her tumor as a necklace. In an interview with STUDIO 360 she claims that the necklace reminds her of the cancer's extinction, “that’s the final form it took—it’s not going to spread.” ...
