Comic book superheroes convincingly portrayed as 17th-century nobles

French artist Sacha Goldberger casts comic book superheroes and sci-fi villains in a never-before-seen light by mashing them up with 17th-century portraiture. Pretty much every popular masked character from DC and Marvel is shown and portrayed in a Flemish fine art style with era-appropriate garments as if they’re from some kind of Elseworlds alternate universe.

The likes of Batman & Robin, Superman, Catwoman, Green Lantern, Captain America, The Hulk, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Wolverine, Darth Vader and more manage to look bad-ass and silly at the same time. What’s interesting is that the collection is not just a comprehensive Photoshop effort, but actually the result of over 110 collaborators, including costume makers and lookalike models.
