The OCD Switch is a switch design created by Pakaporn Teadtulkitikul as a smart solution to saving electricity. As its name suggests, it is mainly intended for people with obsessive-compulsive tendencies who tend to forget to switch off their lights. The ribbed pattern design of each switch is made to look misaligned when the light is on and symmetrical when turned off.
The Thai designer looked to human psychology as the inspiration for her concept. The final product was simple yet very effective to its purpose. In fact, the OCD Switch was given the top accolade at the last 2017 Red Dot Design Concept Award. “That is how we can trick the brain and manipulate the user’s routine behaviour to trigger a response,” the organization said about the OCD Switch.
Do you think this switch design would work on you? You be the judge.
