Tokyo Midtown’s garden space was converted into a light show greenhouse to encourage locals to come out and spend some time surrounded by plants.
The space was designed by PARTY for the city’s 2017 Design Touch event, a festival that focuses on the experimental side of design. Each plant in the installation, titled Digital Vegetables, triggers patterns of light and sound when touched. The project’s sound designer, Ray Kunimoto says, “I recorded the sounds created with actual vegetables. Then, I mixed them with the sounds of orchestra instruments on the computer to make 7 melodies.”
