Producers of the hexagonal soundproofing tiles call the material “woodwool cement board”. The Swedish design firm, Form Us With Love, debuted the product at the Stockholm Design Week, hailing its environmental friendliness and functionality.
Formed into a modular beehive pattern in a selection of eight colors, the tiles are a mix of wood fibers and cement. The material’s sound absorbing properties can improve a room’s acoustics, a new use for a material that is mainly used for packaging. The tiles are now being manufactured by a family-run business that is the only manufacturer of wood-wool in Sweden.
The product idea was initially a response to the designers’ needs for their own studio space — they needed to stop the echoing.
