Johannesburg, South Africa is a beaming city of liveliness, culture, and tradition. Artist Nelson Makamo captures this in his colorful portraits of the children of the city.
The paintings use combinations of oil paints, watercolor, silkscreen and monotype printing techniques, as well as charcoal and ink. The feelings of laughter, hopefulness, and joy emitting from each portrait is beyond contagious. Describing the series, Makamo says, “I document each day visually; because for me, each day is a blessing, being able to capture movements and feelings of people who live around me.”
