Beautifully detailed sculptures etched into paper with a scalpel

Bas-relief creation is as tedious as it is rewarding.

Artist Calvin Nicholls specializes in making intriguing bas-reliefs etched into paper.

The Canadian sculptor artist shines a new meaning on the words, “put it down on paper”, as he creates some incredibly detailed scenes and characters, one etch at a time.

Many of them even consist of superimposed layers.

Hand-cut with a scalpel, the paper sculptures can take anywhere from a mere few weeks to a couple of years!

Check out a handful of Nicholl’s impressive paper bas-reliefs below; and visit his website for many more.
