Startling portraits imagine distorted bones beneath human flesh

Istanbul-based artist Can Pekdemir imagines what human faces would look like if their bone structures were radically distorted, but flesh still covered them flawlessly. The designer has created these incredibly disturbing portraits using photography and digital manipulation. The realism is the most startling aspect of the images, showing everything down to the individual hairs and creases in skin.

Pekdemir is a full-time instructor in the Department of Visual Communication Design at Istanbul Bilgi University and if you liked this series check out his “hairy alien figures” here.
