We can only be certain of the things that we can actually witness, as the future’s still unclear and history can be easily manufactured. This idea is artist Chris Leib’s main focus, giving him quite a lot of inspiration for his brilliant images. In his painting series, titled ‘Eden,’ he reveals the way he imagines our past to be, showing the bizarre world largely inhabited by crazy astronauts and Bonobo apes, mimicking the paintings of historical eras.
Born in San Francisco, Leib obtained a degree in Anthropology, but soon returned to his initial passion –drawing. In ‘Eden,’ the artist intensively explores his long-time fascination with the physical similarities between humans and apes. The focus on apes and astronauts inevitably reminds us of the 2001: Space Odyssey, bringing up themes of the evolution of human beings and our civilization. The unique touch of Leib lets us broaden our own perception and interpretation of what we know about our history and ourselves.
