Beautiful embroidered houses tell stories of people and places

Houses reflect the surrounding environments they’re built in and Stephanie K. Clark’s beautiful thread paintings prove that this is so.

Using swatches of cloth and rolls of thread, the Salt-Lake City-based artist embroiders colorful structures that marvellously resonate with their environments. The tiny paintings are vibrant and even feature outlines of trees, foliage, and the kind of pets and garden ornaments that one would find around certain kinds of homes. Clark, while talking about her innovative painting style said, “When I embroider on canvas it feels like oils; it flows, it blends, and it’s rich.” Clark believes that her paintings tell stories of not only the structures, but also the people who reside in them.
