The largest small commodity wholesale market in the world is located in — where else? — China. In Yiwu, Zheijang province, to be exact, you’ll find the China Commodities City. The market has tens of thousands of booths, each filled with multicolored products, often just multiple and slight variations on the same item.
The photos here were taken by Richard John Seymour (named by Tate Collective as one of 10 emerging talents under 26 in the UK), in collaboration with The Unknown Fields Division, a nomadic design studio run by Liam Young and Kate Davies. The collection, titled ‘Yiwu Commodity City,’ includes only a very small portion of the stalls in the market (around .1% of the 62,000 located there).
