LA-based artist Nina Salerno can’t walk by an old abandoned toy without giving it a chance to live again. The instant love and sympathy that she once felt for discarded stuffed animals led her to this unique project, titled ‘Perfect Rejects,’ in which she revitalizes the old plushies with crazy makeovers.
By exaggerating the flaws and damages on the old toys, Salerno tries to broaden our perceptions of beauty. Her odd creatures draw attention to our own flaws and weaknesses, encouraging us to see positive strength, significance, and distinctness in them instead of negativity.
Check out the artist’s campaign on Kickstarter, where she is raising the funds to produce larger quantities of her favorite critters. If you like this work be sure and check out the equally as bizarre inside out animals by Kent Rogowski.
