The neighborhoods of New York City each portray a distinct and unique character. This has occurred naturally whereas corporate branding requires a consistent and focused effort to distinguish a company.
These logo mashups by NYC designer James Campbell Taylor present interesting visuals that combine well-known corporate brands with the names of Manhattan neighborhoods.
However, the impetus for this series was not about branding and design. Instead, the project titled ‘City in Chains’ was inspired by Taylor’s perception of the growing number of corporate chains in his city. He told the Huffington Post, “The project itself was born out of my increasing frustration and disillusionment with the deteriorating state of Manhattan’s retail landscape.”
