Pieces of foam squeeze and bend into figurative women sculptures

Ever squeezed a sponge and noticed that it looks like a butt? Artist Etienne Gros certainly has. The French sculptor uses foam to create humorously realistic renditions of the female form.

Now that I think about it, foam is the perfect material for this. It bends easily, forms soft curves, is cheap (or free) and glues or sews together effortlessly. In the right light, the surface even looks skin-like. This was the premise for Etienne Gros’ series of foam-women titled ‘Les Mousses.’ See the collection below and head to his website to find more cool figurative work!
