Optical illusion murals peel away walls to reveal amazing worlds

John Pugh uses realistic imagery to create optical illusions in the form of massive murals on the sides of buildings. Pugh has found that people like to be visually tricked and so his paintings often use perspective to make it look as if the sides of the buildings are being peeled away to reveal strange, surreal and even magical worlds.

Pugh says that by “creating architectural illusion that integrate the existing environment both optically and aesthetically, [the work] transcends the separateness that public art sometimes produces.” In fact, some of his paintings seem so real, you might try to walk right into the strange worlds he creates.11 Share 10 Share 9 Share 8 Share 7 Share 6 Share 5 Share 4 Share 3 Share 2 Share 1 Share
