The Barbie doll, in all her exquisitely sculpted plastic parts, has been the sweet spot for some very debatable issues lately. For one artist, it was an opportunity to prove a point. Nickolay Lamm, decided to show the world what the real Barbie doll should look like if it depicted the average 19 year old American woman.
Lamm’s campaign, taglined “Average is beautiful”, has a goal of reaching $95,000 to begin production. His project has gained interest of such figures as Robert Rambeau, the Vice President of manufacturing at Mattel. The doll features articulated limbs that allow her to take on various “fit and strong” positions. You can pre-order one to support his campaign, which has already garnered more than 10,000 backers.
