US hotel chain The Standard has found an unlikely source of inspiration for their 2014 calendar theme. Printed on high gloss vibrant red, the calendar is a collection of photographs ranging from funny to downright surreal, using the strangest guest letters, comments or complaints as starting points for the imagery.
The photos in the calendar were inspired by such bizarre comments as: “My girlfriend and I spent lots of money at the bar and on room service. Any compensation would be greatly appreciated,” or “I lost my kush. Where’s my kush?.” Photographer Thomas Mailaender and director Erik Kessels bring these funny comments to life reenacted by The Standard staff themselves and shot on location at their Sunset Strip hotel. Choice shots include 300 cups of water on the floor of a corridor, an almost literal hot dog, a skeleton relaxing in a hot tub, and Jesus walking on water. It’s certainly a unique approach to customer service!
