Art performence stages the violent results of subway ads

Jon Burgerman is a New York City based artist interested in “instigating improvisation and play through drawing and spectacle.” Recently, Burgerman has re-purposed the subway ads of violent movies in a series of photos he calls ‘Head Shots.’ Burgerman uses fake blood to stage the hidden side to the ads by showing what actually happens when a person is shot.

He poses his body in front of a featured trajectory weapon and splatters fake blood to simulate wounds. The humorous results are then photographed for serious contemplation about violence in our culture. Burgerman was motivated to do these stagings after a number of violent shootings in the United States.
