We’re all familiar with Pokémon, the little Japanese figures that ruled childhood card collections and gamers’ obsessions for years. Looking back, a group of artists wondered how the collecting experience might change if the characters were imagined in a different light? Inspired by the original Kanto Pokedex Project by Justin Chan, the ‘152 Pokedex Project‘ has united 152 Brazilian artists to explore the design of ‘Pokémon.’
With variation in colors and softer, more realistic, expressions the Brazilian version of the project breathed a new life into the original Pokémon characters. The finished project raised an interesting question: How would these characters differ if the same project was executed in different regions across the globe?
As of yet, that question remains unanswered but, the Brazilian project produced fascinating results that keeps the Pokémon fire alive, this time, from an anthropological perspective!
