Of what use is a chair if it can only be used as a chair…right?
Here’s a chair that doubles as a safety helmet.
The Mamoris, as it has been labelled, was created as part of 2013 Tokyo’s Designer Week.
The name “Mamoris” comes from the Japanese word “mamoru”, which means to protect, and “isu” which is chair.
The piece was designed as a safety venture since Japan is prone to earthquakes.
Co-founder of Mamoris, Yuri Ikawa, says “You never know when a natural disaster like an earthquake might strike you, we thought about how best to implement safety into our daily lives.”
