In the words of David Olenick, “I’m an illustrator and designer, but let’s not put labels on our relationship.” This wit is mirrored in his boldly colored drawings and their pithy captions. The NYC-based artist comes up with most of his ideas after a few drinks. He says that he is “inspired by anxiety, embarrassment, character flaws and profanity.”

The minimal drawings are paired with creative insights into an imaginary dialog. When the cup of coffee says, “I own you,” it’s sort of true. The carton of ice cream mocks, “Nobody has to know.” And riffing off of the saying “the early bird gets the worm,” the early worm finally has a chance to respond saying, “Morning people are the worst.”
