Jessica Ledwich is a photo-media artist based in Australia whose work explores social attitudes towards body image, consumerism, mortality and contemporary ideals. Her latest feminist art series entitled ‘The Fanciful, Monstrous Feminine’ features morbid depictions of common beauty rituals. In one horrific image, a woman has severed her fingers and replaced them with the tools used for manicures.

In another, we see a women’s chest on an operating table, but her breasts have been removed and are sitting on a tray nearby. Ledwich says about the work, that throughout history the bodies of women have been represented as a threatening form of sexuality.
