Captivating Star Wars scenes created with LEGOs. The snowy environments are actually shot underwater!

Long before LEGO’s mainstream-acting talent was demonstrated in “The LEGO® Movie” their modeling skills were being explored by the photography of Vesa Lehtimäki (Avanaut). Lehtimäki uses LEGO figurines to create dramatic scenes from cult films including “Indiana Jones,” “The Lord of the Rings” and “Star Wars.” The scenes are not recreations, but additions—resembling action sequences that were never caught on footage.

Lehtimäki’s photo series began in 2009 as a simple documentation of his kid’s toys, then his directing-sensibilities, and Star Wars-enthusiasm kicked in, launching Lehtimäki into a new body of work. Some of his more complicated shots were those involving snow, where the entire set was submerged underwater, and baking soda was used to create the snow-like effect.
