Chances are, if you ride the New York subway on the daily, you’re already familiar with Nathan Sawaya‘s work. The New York-based artist is best known for his three-dimensional sculptures and large-scale mosaics made entirely from Lego toy bricks. His unsettling sculptures of human figures are like a kid’s dream-slash-nightmare come to life.
Sawaya rediscovered Lego as an art medium after college and has since brought playful conceptualization to the toy building blocks, elevating them to the status of spectacularly detailed, museum-worthy fine art. His ‘Art of the Brick’ exhibition is now back as an ongoing attraction in Discovery Times Square.
