Brooklyn based chalkboard artist, Dana Tanamachi, creates work that remains charming and nostalgic even though she has been working with bigger clients. Her designs have been commissioned by Oprah, Target, Nike and TIME Magazine, and these companies have sought her out for a good reason.
The chalkboard drawings are the opposite of the slick polished media that is often seen. They have a vintage appeal of something handmade while maintaining the forms of good design.
Tanamachi commented about her choice to make work using chalk: “To be honest, I love that it’s so cheap. Many mediums require a lot of extra supplies and money… I only buy the dollar store brand and my only other supplies are old rags from around the house and a little step stool. Doesn’t get much better than that!”
