These rocket candles by The Design Division are simple, funny, and functional objects. The candles are inspired by an interest in ‘retro-futurism,’ a trend in futuristic design aesthetics developed prior to 1960. As an homage to, or modernization of, retro-futurism the design team produced a stylized cartoon rocket using the traditional craft of candle making.
The candles themselves are interesting, but equally as fun is the production process. The Design Division first made a rectangular silicon mold negative and then began to wax-cast their rockets. Check out the well documented process below and, of course, the finished candles!
