Personal messages quickly fade from LED sensitive paper

Liat Segal believes that the virtual space has created a social environment where we are more comfortable speaking about personal issues then we are in “real life.” The Israeli artist has assembled a technology that exaggerates this phenomenon. ‘The Confession Machine’ is a UV LED column that slides across light-sensitive paper and displays messages briefly, before they fade away forever.

16 LEDs are used in a flash sequence to assemble the dots and dashes into actual legible messages. The paper contains photochromatic paint developed in Jerusalem by the Bloomfield Science Museum. The device takes confessions from social networks and prints them onto the light-sensitive paper’s temporary surface.

Liat Segal is a new media artist and you can see all of her fun electronic and robotic art projects on her website.
