Massive hyperrealistic sculptures will haunt your nightmares

Australia-born/London-based artist Ron Mueck has a gift for sculpting giant human statues that teeter on the creepier side of uncanny valley. Using resin, fiberglass, silicone, and other materials, Mueck reproduces every small detail of the human body down to each strand of hair and creates hyperrealistic sculptures on a larger-than-life scale. It’s their startling likeness to real people that make them so disconcerting.

The subjects in his sculptures aren’t made to look conventionally attractive. Their vacant expressions will stare straight into your soul and chill you to the bones. Depending on your viewpoint Mueck’s works can either be captivating, or deeply disturbing. They serve as a reminder that the human form can be unsettling and rough. His infamous baby sculpture is too scary to feature here, you might Google it…if you dare.
