21st century tip jar to save the endangered barista

21st century tip jar to save the endangered barista

As everyone becomes increasingly comfortable with, or even dependent on, using credit cards, instead of cash, one subculture in particular suffers – baristas. For many, buying coffee is an automatic daily routine and, as ridiculous as this can sound, it’s inconvenient to carry cash. This problem was the inspiration for DipJar.

Ryder Kessler designed this brilliantly practical device that lets users swipe their cards to give their tip – each swipe is $1. With the help of industrial designer Simon Enever DipJar went through many design variations concluding with one fun, interactive 21st century tip jar. Check out the design process and final rendering of DipJar below.

Long live the barista.
