Wood moves like water in intricate sculptural furniture

Wood moves like water in intricate sculptural furniture

Matthias Pliessnig uses the unique properties in oak wood to permanently shape thin planks using a steaming process. Once assembled, the pieces form a larger than life object made from wood that sculpturally appears to move as liquid.

These elaborate sculptural benches are planned out using 3D modeling software, then executed by had in a painstaking process of steam-bending, fastening, and finishing the surface. The result is beautiful functional furniture extending the length of an entire room.
