Giant serpent sculpture reveals itself in France

Just outside of Nantes, France in the Loire River you can find this incredible sea serpent skeleton which periodically emerges and submerges with the seasons. The fantasy spectacle is a sculpture titled ‘Serpent d’océan‘ by artist Huang Yong Ping.

The form of the serpent mimics the nearby Saint-Nazaire bridge. It presents a bold statement as the major figure from Chinese mythology reveals itself on the European shore. The piece thematically explores modern ideas of cultural hybridity. The permanent aluminum form has been hiding and unveiling itself for two years, originally installed for the Estuaire contemporary art exhibition in 2012.
