San Francisco-based illustrator Craig Drake wears his Patrick Nagel influence on his sleeves. Nagel’s style is most recognized for his iconic album cover of Duran Duran’s Rio. If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, Drake has given that ’80s look a modern spin with these illustrations of cult movie characters.
Among his subjects are Princess Leia; from Star Wars, Neo and Trinity; from The Matrix, and Leeloo; from The Fifth Element. Quentin Tarantino’s movies like Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction are also included, as well as Black Swan, Tron, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, and of course, an apt portrait of French electronic duo Daft Punk.
