A modern interpretation of historical architecture in Azerbaijan

In the heart of Baku, Azerbaijan is a structure that provides a breath of fresh air from the Soviet Union era architecture that floods the surrounding areas.

Designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, the ‘Heydar Aliyev Centre’ hosts cultural events throughout the year and serves as a fluid visual transition between the building itself and the plaza around it.

The design is a contemporary interpretation of the historical architecture visible throughout Baku.

The Heydar Aliyev Center consists of multitudes of accessible event spaces that blur the line between architecture, landscape, interior and exterior.
