Artist aims to make life-sized elephant from a single sheet of paper

How big does a piece of paper need to be to produce a life-size origami elephant? According artist Sipho Mabona, 50-feet square. The artist’s current crowdfunding campaign aims to prove this theory by raising the necessary funds to construct a life-sized elephant from a single sheet of paper.

Mabono is a professional origami artist who produces intricate sculptures from folded paper. His creations have a motion similar to fabric, not the stiff geometric paper commonly associated with the ancient craft.

The goal of this beautifully absurd project is to demonstrate that “there are no limits to what can be made out of a square piece of paper.” This simple goal seems to be an inspirational metaphor for hope, optimism, and creativity.
