Reality distorting murals by Papier Peintres

The French street art team Ella & Pitr, known collectively as Papier Peintres, have created reality altering street murals for their new project called “Anamorphoses.” The murals are an illustrated depiction of picture frames, which cleverly distort the viewers sense of ‘ground’ and space.

Using a technique similar to 3-d chalk artists, Papier Peintres have painted these interactive frames in stairwells, on ceilings, and through doorways to scramble spacial perception. They trick the eye by adjusting the details of the painting to appear on one single plane, even though the artwork spans large gaps and deep spaces. The series of works was created for a new ad campaign for the National Dramatic Center of St. Etienne in France.
