Melbourne-based illustrator, photographer, designer and collagist Hilary Faye breathes new life into her narrative collage works from found photos by transforming them into internet-friendly animated GIFs. The result is something strange and surreal, yet kind of hypnotic.
Interestingly, her collage gif-making process involves altering compositions on a scanner, and then flicking through them on the computer to rearrange and create movement. It’s not the first time this has been done, but Faye’s approach and execution is intriguing nonetheless. When you take away the motion graphic element, these collages work separately as single frames too.
